WHAT IS ASTROLOGY & HOW DOES IT WORK?
Astrology is the study of the movement of celestial bodies — like planets, stars, and asteroids –and how they are believed to influence human behavior, events, and inner development on Earth. The celestial bodies are beings or archetypal forces that radiate consciousness and frequency. Astrology works because we are part of a web of energy. Planets symbolize what is happening on energetic levels in our psyche. As above, so below. Think of a it as a movie production. Planets are the actors, signs are the costumes and roles, and houses are the stage. There are also apsects which give the actors their relationships to one another. Together, they all produce a scene/scenario.
WHAT SYSTEM OF ASTROLOGY DO YOU USE?
Astrology is not a universal system. There are several different systems that are seen through different world views. The 3 main systems that we mostly hear about are Western, Vedic, and Chinese. Western Astrology =physchological/self awareness lens – Vedic/Jyotish = karmic timing and fate – Chinese = compatibility and destiny. I have studied both Western & Vedic Astrology and I use both of them for different reasons to get a more layered outlook. However, this site is dedicated to Western Astrology.
WHAT IS A BIRTH CHART?
A birth chart is also called a natal chart. It shows the location of the planets in the sky at the exact location and time that you were born. It quite literally shows what you are made of—your desires, motivations, values, what you are attracted to, how you communicate, your emotions, and even your life purpose. Your birth chart is you.
HOW CAN I FIND MY BIRTH CHART?
You can find a birth chart calculator online and type in your birth details to get your birth chart. All you need is your date, time, and place of birth. My favorite birth chart calculator is on astro-seek.com.
WHAT IF I DO NOT KNOW MY BIRTH TIME?
If you do not know your exact time of birth you will not be able to get the house placements (the stage or place) where the energy is being expressed. My suggestion would be to obtain your birth records from a family member or birth certificate. You will need to use the long-form version of your birth certificate. Another suggestion would be to use a sun/solar chart. Enter the time as 12pm noon and the solar chart will show you your houses based on your sun sign. Sun charts are best for general personality, strengths, and transits. The lens of a sun chart will be where your will power and vitality is the focus. The chart will mainly show self-expression through the ego.
WHY DON'T I ACT LIKE MY SUN SIGN?
The sun is only one piece of our psyche. You may still be growing into your sun sign through experience, challenges, and conscious choice. You may also have a stronger moon or have a stellium of planets in one sign that override your sun.
IS ASTROLOGY HARD OR DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND?
Astrology is honestly difficult for many people to understand because it is both symbolic and multidimensional. It is a blend of art, science, mythology, and psychology. It involves a lot of moving parts that all influence each other. Plus, seeing how it is practiced in other systems is incredibly overwhelming. It’s also interpretive and not exact due to each person’s unique energy and energetic cycles. Because of this, most people who find it easier to learn astrology already come with that energetic footprint in their birth chart. They have a natural connection to symbolism, cosmic wisdom, and metaphysical thinking. It’s like their soul came in already attuned to the language of the stars. The good news is that anyone with a strong desire to learn astrology can absorb it. All you need is curiosity and intention. Some charts are built for practice and embodiment rather than innate talent.
